Other Winter Activities
Winter sports such as kick sledding and Nordic winter walking are good exercise and great fun. They are worth trying and suitable for everybody.
Kick sledding
At the beginning of the 20th century, one of the most traditional Finnish forms of winter transportation was the kick sled, and it's made a big comeback. This unusual contraption was originally designed to transport two people: the kicker and a passenger. Some of today's kick sleds can also carry several passengers. You can kick sled alone or in groups, to the shop or on longer safaris. Of course, if you take a friend, you can take turns and enjoy the ride as a passenger too. And if you really get hooked on kick sledding, you can take part in local kick sled races.
Nordic Winter Walking
Nordic walking is walking with ski poles. Nordic walking is fitness exercise suitable for anybody and at all times of the year, including the depths of winter.
In just a few years, Nordic walking has become popular among all age groups in Finland, and among people of every fitness level. It is estimated that some 760,000 Finns exercise with Nordic walking regularly and one out of every two Finns has tried Nordic walking at least once.
Nordic walking is so popular because it is effective, easy, safe and inexpensive. You'll soon notice the improvement in your fitness level, as well as improvements in the mobility and blood circulation of your neck and shoulders. And if you want to vary your Nordic walking experience, you can also try Nordic Snowshoeing.
