Catherine's path presents the history of Kotka's fortresses and garrisons. It tells about the Ruotsinsalmi garrison community which was built by the order of the Russian Empress, Catherine II the Great.
Catherine's path is a historic nature trail in the centre of Kotka. The path starts from the Sapokka Water Garden and goes around Meriniemi to Katariina. In addition to nature attractions, the trail presents remnants of the Ruotsinsalmi fortress town.
One part of the path goes to the Katariina Seaside Park, another goes through a protected common alder grove. The path ends in the Herb Garden Redoubt Kotka. The length of the path is app. 2.5 km. Along the path, there are sign boards in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian. At Mansikkalahti and Katariina Seaside Park there are designated picnic places by the sea where it is possible to make fire and barbecue.
